The Fall

Last night at E street cinema, I had the opportunity to see a screening of The Fall, a new film from director Tarsem Singh (The Cell). The movie takes place in a Los Angeles hospital in 1915. Little Alexandria (break-out child actress Catinca Untaru) is an incredibly loveable, imaginative, and completely precious patient who, like fellow patient and hollywood stunt man Roy Walker (Lee Pace of Pushing Daisies), is recovering from the ailments of a recent fall. Alexandria's curiosity leads her to Roy's hospital room, quickly becoming attached to his seemingly trustworthy demeanor and his "epic tale of revenge".




Each shot is a work of art; the black-and-white of the opening scene, the dusty lighting of the 1915 hospital rooms, the saturated colors of their imaginations. It was quirky without being cheesy, it was smart but accessible, it was witty and funny and adorable and infinitely sad. And the costumes!!! Without giving too much away, I beg you to go see this movie. It won't let you down.

Summer 2007

Upon reviewing my schedule for the next few months, I have come to the sad realization that there is no way in hell summer of '08 will even touch summer of '07. bummer.

drkshdw by Rick Owens. Owens is an LA based designer whos current career is influenced by musicians, producing clothes for shows and videos. His neutral gray pallete and his over exhaggerated shapes make him stand out among his peers. Some of his designs are boring and cheesy, but these... THESE:

Crystal Castles vs. 8-bit

Crystal Castles is ripping off everyone these days. It seems that, in addition to using an image from someone else's EP cover art, they are also using the beats of some recorded/released chiptune songs. Not only is this a copywrite issue (which gets a little muddy because of the Creative Commons Licensing) but it is also undermining all the hard work of the Chiptune community, which has remained virtually unnoticed by the mainstream for so long.

Apparently, the Chiptune Community / Scene is 100% outraged.
